VRT exemption

    Hello!
I imported my own car from the continent to Ireland, I sent the application to have the VRT exemption to Revenue, I'm wondering if you guys think this is normal.
I sent the application within a week I came here with my car. 5 days after I receive a letter from Revenue saying they are reviewing the application and meanwhile I can show the same letter to Garda or Customs if I get pulled over while driving on Irish roads.

Now, it has been a month they are reviewing the application, I sent another letter a week ago to ask how long they are going to take, but I got no reply.

The car now is of course on Irish ground for more than a month. In the letter Revenue sent me, they said to wait for the approval before getting an appointment to register the car here.

Am I going to pay a sanction, when I'll eventually receive the approval and will go to register the car? I did everything I could but I don't understand why they are taking this long. On a website I read they usually take 10 business days to approve a VRT exemption.

    Thank you!

There's not much else you can do, should be fine with the letter from the revenue. It took them 2 months to register my car - mine had previously been on the system so they had IT issues. No late penalties obviously since it was their problem

In Ireland there are generally no time limits prescribed by law for any public offices and public servants to adhere to, so they can take as long as they wish.
You'll need to get used to it if you wish to live in Ireland :D

Two months and no late penalties? Great, I was just a bit anxious because I know how strict are laws regarding VRT and foreign cars here... At least that's what I understood. I just don't want a Customs officer follow me and impound my car as soon as I park it because in a way or another I'm not supposed to drive it or because I'm a tax evader or something.

Didn't know this, thanks! I hope they didn't get upset with my second letter, I thought they weren't going to take so much time.
