Failed nct on emissions

As above my gf 03 micra went for its nct and failed 3times on emissions.
(1st test) low idle- CO. 0,44vol% above 0.30% is a fail and high idle was CO. 0.53% above 0.20% is a fail

(2nd test) low idle. CO. 0.01%. high idle CO. 0.90% above 0.20% is a fail. It passed on the low idle after getting a cat welded in not were stock one is. but now shows up a O2 sensor(brand new-blueprint one) so it got that also put in after the welded in cat. it keeps saying the new sensor is a fault?

(3rd test) low idle. CO. 0.56% vol above 0.30%vol is a fail. high idle CO. 0.62%vol above 0.20 is a fail. now itsshowing up that the new sensor is not right/at fault. its also cutting in and out, fuel pump problem i think,my main question is could or would the fuel pump cause it to fail the NCT/MOT on emissions,as im lost as to where to go next with it as dont want to get a new fuel pump if it wont fix the problem.

    cheers in advance mikey

sorry for your loss sounds like its time to trade up for a new one that's what 55+28+28+28 euro right?

Who has been diagnosing/fixing these issues? Surely they should be able to check the emissions after implementing whatever fix...

Sound like it's running very rich so too much fuel not enough air/spark. I would guess a new fuel pump wouldn't make any odds at all.

For a start I'd say you need to return the exhaust to a stock confuration with no fault codes. It's normall the precat sensor that controls all the fueling. What fault code you getting?

Presume you've fully serviced it already? They're not the most complicated thing in the world. Is it a k11 or k12? I would agree with alanstrainor that you need a new mechanic! Where are you based?

it wasnt read the sensor until after the 2nd test, the 2 sensors read it never did b4 the new one was got.it might cost to much to go back to stock setup. ill try and find the fault code. im in north tipp.

I'm in south Tipperary so too far away but there's a guy in Thurles called Liam Clohessy (Clohessys Garage) I can pm his number if you wish.

fault code p0037 is coming up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭dieselbug

P0037 refers to the heater circuit of the post cat oxygen sensor (faurthest one back on the exhaust)
Very straightfoward to check this out.
May be the sensor itself or a fault in the wiring circuit to it.
Either will be easy to diagnose.

wires are joined on the new sensor held together with tape, mite take it to a nissian mecanhic

The O2 sensor fault should be the issue even if the sensor is new dosent mean there isnt a fault in the circut. But any decent mechanic should be able to fix it and test for emissions afterwards.
And if hes just taping the wires then get a real mechanic.
