I received my self install pack this morning and was excited to get online with superfast broadband.

However despite following the instructions perfectly the service wont work. The DS light just keeps flashing no matter how long I leave it. I contacted UPC and they tried something their end but it didnt work, so they have scheduled me in for an engineers visit a week on Wednesday. Thats a long time to wait while suffering with my PC being tethered over 3G. Does anyone have any ideas if there is anything I can do to maybe get the service working before then?

Is there a white box on the outside wall of the house? If so sometimes UPC will disconnect the tap there when a service is discontinued removing the feed from the whole house. Flathead screwdriver, 30 seconds. Boom.

Thanks E DE, unfortunately for me the connection seems fine in the little box outside.

Do you have multiple wallpoints? one the box on the wall you have it connected to is there one connection or two?

There are two threaded coaxial connections, the one on the left is FM and the right is marked as TV, which Ive used to connect to the router as per instructions.

Its worth trying the other one, but if that box is old its possible it no longer works, im assuming you dont have UPC for TV or anything

I did try the other one just in case it was wired wrong. The outlet isnt branded UPC as they have been for a few years now, so it probably is ancient and needs changed or replaced.

Ive no UPC for any other services, I use card sharing for Sky. I just moved into this house so have no idea if they had UPC before me.

Those things are fairly hardy, there's nothing really inside them that would "break". It's just a splitter with an FM filter.

OP, when you looked in the white box did you just see something like this: http://i.imgur.com/i7a1u.jpg or something like this (a cable tap)? http://s983.photobucket.com/user/jmse71/media/jimworkfoneapr132013-04-12004640x480.jpg.html

The white boxes I've seen at the side of houses (3 times I can think of) with the UPC connection just have a cable joined to another cable and not the actual tap.
