Is there a higher standing charge for having 3 phase in a domestic setting i.e. a house which has it installed already?

    Hi Weyhey,

    Thanks for your post.

If the connection is registered as a domestic property, the normal residential standing charges would apply. Having a three-phase connection shouldn't affect this.

For residential customers, the standing charge varies depending on whether the property is classed as urban or rural, and whether the tariff is standard 24-hour or dual-tariff (nightsaver).

Hope this helps. If you would like us to have a look at your account to double-check anything, just send us the following details by private message:

I also wondered this; I do some woodworking at home, and some tools are available as three-phase versions.

Would getting three-phase supply mean a second connection, therefore a second supply charge?

    Hi valen,

Thank you for getting in touch.

You would need to check with ESB Networks first to determine what would be required in your case as there may be additional work required. ESB Networks maintain the electricity network for all suppliers and you can find their contact details here.

If you have any other questions, we would happy to help.

    Thanks,
    Aoife

    Hi,

Is this statement still correct i.e. standing charges for a normal residential is the same whether it 3 phase or single?  If so can I also assume the charges in table 3.1 (Urban Domestic, which I am) here apply? https://www.esbnetworks.ie/docs/default-source/publications/esb-networks-dac-statement-of-charges, so it is really just the cost of the connection which would differ, correct?

    Many thanks

    Anthony

    Hi Anthony,

Thank you for getting in touch.

If the supply is registered with ESB Networks as a residential property, then the residential standing charge will apply. ESB Networks maintain the electricity supply for all electricity companies, including Electric Ireland. You will need to check with them how the property is classified according to their database. This classification will determine the standing charge. You can find their contact details here.

We are unable to provide any guidance regarding the figures contained in the link above as that is published by ESB Networks.

If you are querying about the standing charges as an Electric Ireland customer, they are €147.35 (€167.24 including VAT) per annum for urban customers on a 24 hour rate. You can find Electric Ireland's price plans here.

Please let us know if you have any questions regarding Electric Ireland's offers.

    Kind regards,
    Aoife
