Head Lamp/NCT/Opinions please

I had a bulb replaced in my head lamp a few weeks ago. Then failed my NCT as the bulb had been put in incorrectly. So I brought it back to where the bulb had been replaced today to get it fixed before my re-test. They said themselves that the bulb had been put in incorrectly so I pointed out it was them who did it. The guy was so defensive and denied he had done it - his computer then said otherwise. So he fixed it free of charge of course. But...should I have asked them to cover the cost of my re-test as well? It was the only reason for the fail.

if that's the only reason you failed on, the retest is free (visual)

It's not free - it requires the car to be in for lights alignment check.

+1 I think 'visual' means the tester can check it in the car park. For headlight alignment it will have to go in to a bay so will cost the retest charge.

There is a definitely a re-test charge of 28 Euros. It says so on the Fail notice.

Id ask will they pay for it. I would hazard a guess they will try not to tho.

If there was 12 months between the bulb being fitted and failing the test would you still hold them as liable?

Yes, it was their fault it failed but the onus is always on the owner of the vehicle to ensure all is correct, the only issue here is time between fitting and test.

OP, i wouldn't expect or demand them to pay but its no harm dropping them an email explaining your out of pocket because of their employee and you may get a good will gesture.

Thanks for the feedback. That's exactly what I have done, so we'll see. The annoying part is that the mechanic DENIED I had the work done there! Like I would just make it up! Anyway, he was proved wrong. If his attitude had been better I might have just left it...

No harm in asking them in a nice manner and as said already they might just do it as a good will gesture.
