Re-Wicking Kayfun : How Often

Just wondering how often would people re-wick their Kayfun or similar RBA .

Is it as simple as , when you notice the flavour going . Or when you burn it like I did because I forgot I had the mini subtank on the IPV @ 20 Watts and then switched to the Kayfun without changing the settings , I need another battery as the Kayfun won't fire on the Vamo . I have this latest wick in about 3 days and the flavour is only improving as I go .

And while we are at it same question for the coil , and I am already presuming it's the same answer .

Basically I suppose I am asking how long ye get from them under normal use ( which I know changes from person to person . I'm beginning to think the kanthal and cotton will last for ages .

Yesterday I stumbled upon another forum and someone was claiming they'd been running a kayfun on the same coil and wick (ecowool) for a year and it was vaping perfectly still. You can druburn that with the wick still in though so not the same as cotton or whatever.

I don't think I really have a set time. I changed the wick on my Subtank mini yesterday and got it whatever day most of us got them from Gearbest so I think that's about a week. I usually find I'll rewick due to what I've decided are incompatible flavours going in rather than flavour suffering but then some juices (I'm looking at you MBV caramel coffee!) will need to be rewicked and dryburned the morning after the night you've done it, which is a feckin PITA!

If you don't like wicking or you come across a PITA liquid as detailed above, you could try this:

I haven't done it but I will next time I get a liquid like that.

All I use are 2 x kayfuns. Using standard cotton ball wicks. I change out the wick once every 2 weeks or so. I just remove the old wick, dry burn the coil, until it's orange hot, stick it under a tap to get rid of the black gunk build up. Do that a couple of times, add in a new wick and bobs your uncle.

As far as changing coils, may be once every 3 months or so. I don't see the point when a dry burn sorts it out. I give the whole set up a thorough clean though when I change out the coil.

I have one kayfun with tobacco type flavours, and the other usually has a sweeter or mint type flavour in there.

I change every 2nd day 3rd max. Does be black as black and the coil well caked.i dont vape high watts either and use HS tab blended. i just dry burn as mentioned above. A month maybe more before i recoil and at that i dont really need to but just do

Once a week or more if I'm changing juices around. I'd recoil every 2-3 weeks not from any need to do it I just like the doing of it.

Depends entirely on the liquid I'm using. If it's one of the HOL nets like Guevara or Perique I have to rewick and dry burn after every tank full.
Apart from that I rewick / dry burn every 5-7 days approx and pop a new coil in roughly once a month.
Rule of thumb I've found is that the darker the liquid the more often I have to clean.

Rewick probably once every 5-7 days as well. Also dry burn the coils. Put in new coil on the 2nd or 3rd rewicking so maybe every 2 or 3 weeks.

This. Although recoiling for me depends on the condition of the coil, even a dry burned coil will eventually stop performing and the length of time varies for me.

That's a more accurate version of my earlier post.

    V. interesting. Will read after lunch!

Edit: Hmm. Thanks for that. It would have been cool if he could have shown some sort of comparatives between new coil/ dry burned coil. As coils cost feck all though, I may just stop dryburning and build anew when my coils go ****ty.

Interesting also that he mentions the idea of cleaning the wire before creating the coil, hadn't really considered it. I guess the suggestion would be to run them through some vodka or something and then allow them to dry before building. Don't know if I could be arsed with that tbh.

I think its important to only pulse your coil when dry burning.
If you get it so hot the wire is melting then thats a bad idea.
I generally wash the coil in hot water, pick off what I can with my fingernail, then dry burn (pulsing) the rest off, then usually wash the coil again. Sounds like a lot of effort, but it only takes a minute. Sure you could build a new coil every time, its up to you!

If you take out the dry burning to clean the coil , because in fairness they are cheap and easy to make , you are still left with having to heat up the coil to pinch it together . TBF I haven't made that many coils but the ones I have made always need to be pinched at the end . I might try a few extra wraps the next time and unwind them , hopefully leaving enough tightly wraped .
