Classic fight of the week suggestions.

So, this is the idea, roughly.

Every week starting Monday morning, ending Thursday night at this time (or, ye know, whatever), people will post to this thread, suggesting a great fight that everyone should watch (or re-watch). Come Thursday evening, the mods, or a poll, or some sort of thing (I haven't really thought this through), will pick the most worthy, or popular, (I really haven't thought this through) fight suggested. And then we will all try to watch (or re-watch) it over the weekend. And then we can discuss it, one fight at a time.

*Full fights available on youtube or somewhere else are kinda essential to the idea*

My hope is that a lot of us might get to see an unmissable fight we really shouldn't have missed up to now, and that there will be some great discussion to be had for the week about the fight, until the next great fight is put up the following week, and that fight thread is closed off and resigned to history.

This is an amazing idea. Hammer out the details yourselves. Who agrees?

    "Yeah awesome idea Strobe!!!"

    "Wow, that'd be great!"

"I'm on board!!! Have my babies!"

And other such words in support of the general idea welcome.

    I really like the idea.

Whatever about the "how's" and "what-if's" I think it's really worthy of trying out. As you said it could introduce lots here to great fights very few knew of.

    I'm in favour.

Maybe a week is too short a time.. fortnight perhaps or even monthly?

Yeah that's a good point, like pac-man, I find myself short for time, and I'm sure a lot of people are the same, one a week might be hard to fit in. Forthnightly (is that a word?) sounds good, or monthly, whatever suits people.

Anyone any other suggestions for how it could work?

As Mills Lane would say "Let's get it on." Good idea. I assume we can throw up a few suggestions? Maybe if each poster throws up three relating to modern/old and one from any era that really stands out for them?

I'll start then. Modern: Groves-DeGale 2011. Excellent technical match and full of subtle action throughout.

Oldie: LaPorte-McGuigan 1985 I think was the year. Very interesting scrap, and Barry's biggest win to date.

Beast of a fight: Holyfield-Bowe 1 1992. All round brilliance.

A fantastic idea for a thread. Although like Pac_man my time to actually watch these is severely limited.

Continuing on Walshb's approach I'm going to choose as follows:
    Modern- Vasquez vs Marquez III
Oldie- Alexis Arguello vs Aaron Prior I
    Beast- Castillo vs Corrales I

The Vasquez vs Marquez trilogy (lets forget the 4th fight) is simply amazing, and any of the fights stand up there as some of the most enthralling contests we've seen in recent times.
Arguello vs Pryor was just a fantastic fight, with controversy and all to it at the end.
Castillo vs Corrales, perhaps too many will have seen this in recent times, but my pick for the best bout of pugilism we've ever seen.

Be hard to find a better fight than Kevin Mitchell vs Jorge Linares last night
Just had a look back i thought this meant the present week

Oldie: Leonard/Hearns 1. Any fight involving the 4 Kings needs no introduction or explanation...great fight this one

Modern: Yaegashi/Porpramook...always have loved the little guys Boxing, there have been countless absolute bangers of fights there in recent years, this one was class. Not even on YT.

    Beast: Easy pick..Morales/Barrera 1

Not sure if we are all supposed to suggest something and then decide to watch or just bang away with as many suggestions as possible, but here's three -

Oldie - Lupe Pintor v Wilfredo Gomez

Modern - Carl Thompson v Ezra Sellars

Barroom Brawl / Beast - Ron Lyle v George Foreman featuring IMO the all-time wildest round of boxing between world-class fighters.

I'll get onto the Thompson fight. I haven't seen or heard of that one. The other two are classics.
