Just a quick query...bought a car in Dublin..two weeks later engine management light on..diagnosed egr issue. Covered under warranty so was told to bring it back to garage..I'm in cork myself. Booked in for last Wednesday..rang Tuesday to confirm and was told that they weren't sure about Wednesday and that they would let me kno that evening. No contact that evening so I rang and no answer. Didn't go Wednesday and Saturday dpf light came on and car in limp mode. They will cover under warrenty but are refusing to tow car from cork to dublin. Should that towing be covered under warrenty or not?

After buying the car the salesman said he would send a copy of warranty with receipt and spare key to my address..no sign yet even after asking three times for them. I know I shouldn't have left without then but assumed he would send them on. Gonna get a quote from my own garage and see if I can get it fixed here. Cheers for replying.

assume this is a used car dealer ? is warranty their own or from warranty company - surely they could get garage i cork to fix and pay by cheque / card?

Gonna get quote from garage here and see what they say...hopefully won't have to tow up to Dublin...bad timing cos baby due tomorrow..the back seats in the new car were needed.

If you are buying a car a long distance away from where you live the warranty is worthless for small issues and hassle for big issues. Why did you leave garage without reciept, warranty and spare keys. This is 10 minutes work. If any longer I be smelling a rat. Below is your rights re buying a used car

IMO if the car is not capable of being driven it is up to the dealer to collect. If he refuses another option is to fix yourself and pursue through smalls claims court. Biggest issue is time and he is playing with that. He canceled the first booking so imo he is responsible. However used car dealers are a law unto themselves.

Usually on 2nd had cars the warranty is "strictly engine and gearbox only"... which in my opinion would indicate that towing isn't included. Now if you know that the dealership own a tow truck then I would expect them to pick it up as a good will gesture but otherwise they wouldn't be liable to get someone to tow the car, in my opinion.

If you know anyone with access to a cheap diagnostic computer who would switch the light off for you then you would prob be able to drive to Dublin without the light coming on and the car going into limp mode. EGR valve being stuck open or closed wont do any damage to your car its just there to reduce emissions.

Well turns out there is a 3000km limit on the warranty and I had 3120 km done so they are not covering it under warranty. Getting the dpf cleaned and hopefully on the road after that. Cheers for the replys!!!

3000 km mickey mouse type warranty, and bad form/cope out from the dealer given it was only 100 km over imo.

I was very surprised with the accord I got a three month three thousand mile warranty which literally covered everything apart from squeaks and rattles it was very detailed about what it covered

Yea it was v annoying considering the problem occurred before the 3000 km limit but sure I can't prove it did...sure new baby at home kinda makes me realise not to sweat the little things...my 8th car in 10 years so maybe I'm a little tough on cars anyway!! 2 astra's, a golf, Santa fe, 2 landcruisers, ford focus and now a navara.
