Best route to Derry

Hi there,

I think I'll be travelling up to Derry at the weekend but there's one problem: I've no idea how to get there. I'm not driving so it'll need to be either bus or train. Yet, when I look up fares on Bus Eireann or Irish Rail, Derry and Londonderry aren't listed as available destinations for whatever reason.

I can only assume I'm doing something wrong, because I'm not used to looking to make these trips online, but any help would be appreciated.

Cross-border tickets on Bus Eireann cannot be purchased online due to Ulsterbus having a different ticketing system.

Assuming you're travelling from Dublin, Bus Eireann/Ulsterbus fares are:

Adult Single - €24
Adult Return - €32.50
Student Single - €20.50
Student Return - €27.50

Hello again,

I booked two one-way tickets to Derry from Dublin, and then from Derry to Dublin the following day. But it was like €8 each way. Why is it significantly cheaper than the fares listed in Lxflyer's post? I've got a terrible feeling there's a catch somewhere but, given that I'm not used to booking bus tickets, I can't identify what it is.

I should mention that it's express but I can't figure out why that'd be way cheaper?

There is a seat sale at the moment on Bus Eireann until May 31st!!


The fares I quoted are the standard ones.
