As title says, girl I work with got rear ended yesterday. 98 corsa. Rear bumper, boot damage. I'm sure the assessor will write it off. Anyone care to estimate on the valuation ? I was thinking circa €500 ?

Is there a minimum payout in the event of a claim where the vehicle in question is worth very little ?

Ask your Colleague to wait for the assessment first. And then to base her appeal (if ever required) on the Open Market Selling Price valuation from the VRT website.

Selecting the mid options on the VRT website gives a 2,000 value. This is a way overestimated value in my opinion and you would not get that. Done deal would suggest somewhere about 700 with NCT.

For something of that value i believe they will write it off.
A new bumper would be circa 500-700 mark,

She should rent out a car either with the other cars insurers permission or not and then get them to pay the bill, whether her car was worth hundreds or thousands she no longer has use of it through no fault of her own. What will likely happen is they will come to a settlement figure to offer her and probably leave ownership of the car with her to do as she pleases. As the figure of how much it is worth is so low they will want to settle it as quick as possible to reduce car rental expenses.

my borther recently got around 1500 for a 98 mk4 golf which I would have considered a total POS. He was offered a lot less by assesor but argued that it could not be easily replaced for the perceived market value of the car circa (700euro)

He did well. I know of the opposite case where an immaculate astra with only 25k miles but about 12 years old was burned and the owner got about 500 which was the market value for astras of similar age but was nowhere comparable to the burned car.
