Jeep won't start.

    Might be best to start your own thread, its getting confusing giving advice to 2 seperate problems on 2 different jeeps

    ITS A 98/99 PAJERO 2.8td, did run a bit low on diesel, would the filters be blocked, someone mentioned there is one inside the injector pump, anyone know

    If you ran out of diesel it will need to be primed to get out air locks in fuel system.
    On my Jeep grand cherokee there is a primer pump on top of fuel filter it requires pumping to get the fuel up to injector pump

    there probably something similar on Pajero

    Tow rope and pull start it, will bleed through.

    thanks but before this was giving problem before even with plenty of diesel in that it would start then cut out, then start again but no power , no revs but after few minutes would get the power back,

    thanks guys il try a new filter tomorrow, what the proper way to bleed the system when the filter is replaced

    ok he changed the filter and old one was not great but do i need to bleed it now as cant get it to start, there is a primer type pump on top of filter housing and a size 10 nut on the size, it probably for bleeding it..

    You wont need to open any nuts or bolts just push away on the primer pump, takes a lot of pumping to get all the air out, best way of doing it is to fill the filter with clen diesel before screwing it on to the housing, if at all possible.

    He mustn't be much of a mechanic if he does not know how to bleed out the system, did he fill it with diesel before fitting new filter?

    he's a mate of mine, he's no mechanic and did fill the filter

    Sounds like you have more problems than just air locked. The fact that it wouldnt start before the filter change indicates bigger problems. Those diesel pumps are notorious for seal failure. Www.pocuk.com/forums is a great website for pajeros. Im not suggesting changing the pump yet but its something that does give problems. Try the easy things to the best of your abillities then get someone to look at it or else you will be just changing parts until you luck out and find the problem, could get expensive that way

    Came across one of these jeeps a couple of weeks ago. Wouldn't start either, but it turned out that the timing belt had broken as it was being started.

    This wouldn't explain your ongoing symptoms but you could have a couple of things going on.

    towed it but no start, going to get guy to look at it, might be the pump as seals I hear go in them

    Thought in passing, having had huge hassles with an Isuzu a while back, which have just surfaced again today after changing the fuel filter. If the connection to the filter are not perfect, the pump may be drawing air, and that can (and does) stop things very effectively.

    The clip holding the pipe on to the filter was good, but the pipe had become hardened with age, and even though the filter was full, and the pump device on the filter was working, so it was possible to fill the new filter and get the air out, it wouldn't run with any power above tickover.

    At the time, as we were away from home, the filter body got swapped, and as the unions on the new body were slightly larger, the pipes sealed, but the underlying issue was that the clips were not capable of preventing air from getting in to the line. On returning home and testing the original filter, and finding no leaks, as it was a better fit, it was put back on, with screw down clips rather than the spring loaded ones that were OEM fitted. Today, the filter was changed, and to do it easily, it's quicker to take the entire unit out in order to remove the filter and the water trap unit, but on replacing it, the jubilee clip isn't providing enough force to ensure a good seal, and that's brought back the old problem of air getting it, which means new pipes tomorrow to get the thing working again.

    If the pump on this vehicle hasn't got a good fuel supply in to it, and isn't drawing fresh fuel that will be a recipe for non starting.

    Update

    New fuel hoses just fitted, and it's now working like it is supposed to, which helps!

    Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

    Start at the at the start anyway, is their diesel in the tank? Confirm this first, use another means other than the fuel gauge.
