Bar/Pub work no experience

I'm currently looking for some part time work in a pub/bar and am just wondering what way I'd go about it without having any experience in this type of work. I'm currently training to become a mechanic but would really like to get some experience in bar work if I ever decide to travel or am short on work at home it is a great thing to have on your cv.
Just wondering how others got into bar work without any experience/starting off as everyone starts off inexperienced at some stage.
I'd be available weekends all day and week nights till close but I'd take any hours I could get. Is it just a case of handing in your cv to as much places as possible or has anyone any tips for me to be more successful into getting some hours somewhere all help would be very much appreciated.
I would consider myself a peoples person, hardworking and could easily chat away to a stranger.
    I'm a 21 year old male.

    Thank you

Not sure about Dublin but I remember in Sydney they did one day bar skills courses. I did see a decent looking six week hospitality course in Dublin combining bar and waiting skills. You can claim the dole on it too. If you can pull a pint and open a bottle of wine your on the way..

The most common option is simply to start as a bar back (i.e. collecting glasses, empty bottles etc. on the floor) and you'll usually get a chance behind the bar eventually if you show a bit of cop on and interest. If not you have courses like this to help you with technique etc.

Can't remember to be honest. Was in the city centre. Might have been 12 weeks. Seemed a well respected thing
