    Hi,
I am just after finishing my accounting technician exams and hope to continue on to become an accountant.
I am unsure what way to go. I can get into year 2 of a 3 year level 8 in accounting. I realize this will add some extra time but is it worth it?

I am also unsure if I should apply for cima/acca etc I really enjoyed the management accounting module of accounting technicians but am wondering if it will be similar?
    Thanks

I have the same issue. Can't decide between MSc in Accounting or going chartered till the end.
I think employees are more favorable towards college grads, since most starting jobs require 2:1, thus you need to have a diploma.

I did this route, just finished the degree a couple of weeks ago. Results next month but should be a 1.1 degree and I start a training contract with a Big 4 firm after the Summer. They seemed impressed at interview that I had the technician qualification as well as the degree.

Personally I would recommend doing the degree first.

you'll have more exemptions for the professional bodies to recognise but also you'll learn more in college other than just accounting.

You'll have to learn how to work in a team on a project and/or manage that team, you'll have to learn negotiating skills with lectures for deadlines you can't keep etc.

I could go on but you should be able to get the gist of what I'm saying and these all impress employers if you can sell them correctly.

The biggest incentive of going back to college and getting a degree (ignoring ACCA Brooks degree as you have to finish ACCA before you get it) is that if you decide after completing the degree and started the professional exams that you suddenly don't like accounting anymore you still have a degree and that gives you clout to do other things.

Unless you finish the professional exams all you will have is your accounting technician diploma.

This is the route I've taken so far and it hasn't let me down as yet just need to finish all the ACCA exams and my journey is over :-)

Best of luck whatever you both decide to do.
