So many smug people who voted yes around recently and on twitter on Facebook. Fair play, you took a part of the democratic process no need to tell everyone.

Am I being cynical here ? I voted yes fwiw.

I thought being smug was a prerequisite for being on Twitter

I don't think it's smugness. The referendum was a big fucking deal, so I think people are entitled to congratulate each other in the immediate aftermath.

I've talked about it on a post on Facebook because as a young gay guy living in Ireland, I felt proud and privileged to have the opportunity to vote on a constitutional amendment that will fundamentally affect my life (the right to marry the man I love), and the lives of many others. I'm still so overwhelmed and happy that it passed, like it will be a weekend I'll never forget.

    TLDR: Pride, not smugness.

I'm smug because I'm all round great.

I voted yes too, fwiw, and I'm still not seeing what the big deal is but I suppose it doesn't affect me too much and a lot of people seem to be very happy about it so I guess that's a good thing, isn't it really just a normalisation of relationships in a legal sense, I saw a lot of people on the television who said it was a great thing altogether. Marriage isn't all it's cracked up to be, I don't think.

I suppose I can be smug sometimes, but that's only because I'm generally great.

...says the person starting their own special thread to moan in the hope that someone will pay him a bit of attention. Nobody gives a **** about your gripes, mate.

People are happy because they brought about a great change for the better in their society. Let them enjoy it.
