Hi all I'm looking to buy a new car and spending a few quid on a 2008/2009 bmw/Volvo/Audi. I've picked these as I like them but would they be a decent car to buy. I hope to spend maybe 10--11k probably a diesel I do 400km a week and sometimes more. Are the v50 volvos any good is the 1.6 diesel a good car? Any feedback or other suggestions appreciated thanks in advance.

Would you think of a V50 or V70 2.4 diesel? We have had a 1997 V70 diesel since 2006, and last week we took it on a four hour journey from Dublin to Cork and back with out any trouble.

    in a nutshell,

Volvo.... avoid the 1.6 PSA diesel engine if you can, reliability is an issue. the rest of car is pretty solid from what I gather.

BMW..... unless the timing chain fault has been addressed then walk away, other than that it's a good car.

Audi...... regarding engine & body, they're rock solid but they cheap'd out on almost everything else, you wont have major issues but you will have a lot of minor issues.... believe me, I'm driving one right now.

    Regards,
