01 ford focus losing power

my ford focus has started to lose power. it drive fine up to forth gear but once i hit 5th and around 50mph the car loses all power. it slowly starts to slow down so i have to drop back into forth. its consuming alot of petrol cause i have to drive it harder to go anywhere. i know its a bit vague but any ideas what it…
