For 150 the best you could get is probably an amiko alien 2/sab triplex. Not sure how they compare to the vu+ duo though.

Thanks for the reply, i was looking at the amiko seems it gets good reviews too, im sure it would be better than my duo though it is a clone! i wish i had a real duo but my bank balance does not permit that at the moment! the sab triplex i will have a look at now. many thanks for the help!!

if its working fine why not just hold onto it, and keep putting away a few quid and get yourself a solo 2?

Agree with glic83, keep saving and put it towards solo2 or something with good support, the amiko has its problems (not that easy to get it running stable from scratch if your planning to use the enigma2 side of it)
The sab triplex is more or less the same box as the amiko 2 triple tuner.
The edision optimuss os3 plus is better, in my opinion (more expensive though) than the amiko/sab for plugins etc.
The Technomate TM-Nano-3T COMBO is only a few quid more expensive than the edision but better supported.
The solo2 is a cracking receiver but doesn't have an onboard terrestrial tuner (unlike the previous two i mentioned but can easily run a usb dvb-t tuner) and has massive support.

    Hi,

Was thinking of getting either the edision optimuss os3 or the Technomate TM-Nano-3T COMBO.

From reading up on them it seems like they are the exact same box, it's just they are badged differently. As I'm a complete n00b when it comes to linux boxes, could you please explain how one is better supported than the other as i thought all the same firmware & plugins would work on both?

    Thanks,
    doney84

Just because it has the same specs, it may not necessarily mean that the same hardware is installed in both (different tuners/bootloaders etc)
The plugins will work but the images/firmware are written for each particular receiver.
You should never put an image written for one receiver onto another. (it may brick your receiver)
The tm nano 3t seems to have more image teams creating images for it, thus better supported.
It also has the openvix team creating images for it which (in my opinion) is a very good image and easily setup from scratch.
Technomate are an english company (based in london) so there is also no language barrier when/if you have problems.

Have a read through this recent thread where numerous receivers are discussed
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057404110

If you dont want to spend too much money then the Xpeed LX2 receiver is available delivered for ~145 euro
    http://www.satkontor.de/golden-interstar-xpeed-lx2-hd-usb-pvr-e2-hdtv-linux-twin-sat-receiver-2x-dvb-s2.html

Givecredit had a few Vu Duos but now has LX2's and Gigablue Quads and he said the LX2 is a much superior receiver to the Vu+ Duo so it would be a good upgrade .

The duo and even the clone I would imagine is still a better box that the amiko alien by far.

Better option would be a gigablue maybe gigablue quad plus

The Alien 2 is a faster receiver than the Duo and the picture quality is vastly superior too .
The Alien 2 is a very stable receiver now and runs 90% of the plugins a Mips based receiver does.
The Duo does have a great support base but its only a 400mhz cpu.

But I agree with you in that an Alien 2 wouldnt be a worthwhile upgrade ,its too close to a Duo in spec.
