Its highly unlikely to ever happen but I was thinking what if a referendum ended a dead heat of 50/50?

Would a 2nd referendum be required or would it be deemed that it didn't pass.

Any laws to account for this?

By definition, it has to get over fifty per cent to pass, so it would fall.

This. We're voting to amend the Constitution. A 50/50 split wouldn't be a yes vote so status quo would remain

I'd imagine there would be recounts for days after though.

Voting again only happens for EU treaties where the government of the day think the electorate they represent are too thick to be allowed vote No. Nice and Lisbon still annoy me.
