are they even bothering to count tonight ?

I have vague recollections of previous Referenda where there was no rush on them to start till the next day.

The count will start in the morning, but there might have been an exit poll.

An exit poll wouldn't be very reliable though - the tallies will give the first proper idea of how things are going - that and the turnout of course.

In a general election there is usually an RTE Radio 1 exit poll released at 7am the next morning.
I am not sure whether there is one for referendum.

But if there was one there would still be a disparity between it and the No vote I believe, people will vote no but will still be reluctant to tell a stranger about it.

RTE stated they weren't carrying out an exit poll, don't think anyone is.

An Exit poll would be useless in this election, most No voters would be (rightly imo) too embarrassed to admit the way they've voted.

Couldn't they just count the people coming out of polling stations with a smug self satisfied appearance?

They could have voted either way from what I can see

Any idea why both ballot papers had to go into the same box? wouldnt it be easier when counting to have 2 seperate boxes?

Extra hours paid work for the well paid civil servants who take a day's annual leave to get some easy extra money;)

The voting papers are folded so the counter has to open and flatten each one so it doesn't make a difference. Just four piles yes and no for each referendum

? Wouldn't be a very secret ballet if there were two different boxes

One for each topic being voted on, not one for yes and one for no

That's not an exit poll, that's a tally

That's a tally - and as always it's a single, cross party effort
