Vw golf gearstick shaking

    Hi All,

Over the past few months the gearstick on my 07 Golf starts shaking when I am driving in third gear only. All other gears are fine. It is noticeable in third gear when I put my foot on the accelerator. Any ideas what might be causing this? If it's a clutch or flywheel issue I guess it would affect the other gears but it doesn't. Also it's a diesel car.

    Worn 3rd gear I reckon.

Eventually it will shake so much that it will pop out of gear.

I would have a look at Active Transmission in Dublin, great guys for jobs like this. Don't bring it to a mechanic.

Cheers. I assume those guys would know fairly quickly what's wrong just by driving it without opening up anything? It's a small issue at the moment but may get worse in future.
Have you used those guys? Are they reasonably priced?

i have noticed this in my 08 golf (petrol) in second gear only, noticed it in 2012 after buying it, it never escalated into anything and is still there, have got used to it now. Any updates appreciated

    Yeah I used them.

I had the same issue with 5th gear in my car. I brought it down to a local mechanic and he told me he'll charge me for taking out the gearbox and whatever Active Transmissions charge for the repair.

I drove the car down to Active Transmissions and they told me without looking at the car that they can do it without even removing the gearbox.

About 100 euro saved alone. Active Transmissions didn't even need to drive the car, they're the pros :D

I needed to get a reconditioned gearbox for my car. It was about 800 or 900 but no issues since it was replaced.

    Best of luck!
