Hey guys, not sure I'm in the right thread so please move the thread if that's the case.

I'm looking in to buying my first racing style bike soon and I'm wondering if someone could point me in a decent direction.

Majority of the time it will just be used for getting from A to B but I'd also like to go on the odd lengthy cycle. My budget is about E200-E350. I know it's not much and I'm not expecting anything amazing. Could anyone recommend some decent brands/models?

    Cheers.

For your budget you probably wont find much decent new. Can you use the bike to work scheme to stretch your budget?

If not I would concentrate on trying to find something second hand that is in good condition. You'll get a much better bike for your money.

Look on the usually sites eg Adverts, Donedeal etc.

Could you recommend any brands to look for/avoid? Thanks!

There's usually a couple of older giant defy's and trek 1.2(alpha?) on adverts for the top end of your budget, that's where I'd be looking with your budget.
What height are you and what part if the country are you in?
    Marty.

I'm about 5'9, I'm in Dublin City. What do you make of this? Any use?

I'd say its junk to be honest, I wouldn't even look at it and the bike I currently ride isn't worth 300 so I'm no snob myself. .. At your height you'll be looking most likely for a 54 or 56 cm frame.

Absolute bottom of the pile spec, heavy steel frame, handle bar mounted shifters (probably tourney) avoid avoid avoid. I personally wouldn't even take that bike if I were offered it for free.
