If your Irish based your better off going with a local company.
Time zones with GO daddy are a problem and its nice to be able to pick up the phone if youve a problem.
Register 365, Blacknight, spiral hosting in Belfast.

    Blacknight all the way.

They're on here and on Twitter and they are very helpful if you have a problem.

Already went with 365 the other night, they had the cheapest price. Can always change registrar once they expire anyway.

Based on what I'm currently experiencing with one Irish provider, I'd highly recommend picking one that has Irish 24/7 support. It's all well and good supporting Irish, but some ISPs seem to think the internet is only open Mon-Fri 9:00-5:30 GMT

There's pros and cons to both. The uber-registrars may have 24/7 'support' but it's generally provided by someone with a flowchart that doesn't necessarily have a full understanding of what it is they're supporting. The Irish registrars may only provide out of hours cover for emergencies but during office hours you're much more likely to be able to talk to a real live technical person.

I'm talking about 24/7 technical support. Both of the options you mention are pretty useless when my site goes down at 9pm on a Saturday night.

I've had a very busy site repeatedly go down for days on end, over the last few weekends, and for hours on end over weeknights, it's completely infuriating. Hundreds of other sites on the same server also down, and it's like water off a duck's back to these clowns - they don't even seem to have a monitoring service, or a technician on call.

They claim to have after-hours support, but it's based somewhere on the other side of the world, you send a mail alerting them, and they will do one of two things - they'll wait for the site to come back up, then send a screengrab to you to show it's online, or, if the site doesn't come back online they'll just ignore the mail.

Domain registrars wouldn't normally be looking after your site which is what the OP asked about.

As an aside, the Irish hosting provider I use for some of my projects has always been very good at OOO support. Anything critical has always gotten a response within about 30 minutes from (I'm assuming) their engineer on-call.

    Yeah, I know, I got side-tracked, sorry.

Can you PM the provider name to me please, I have to move that site before I lose my sanity and my home.
