We are celebrating our 1st Torque birthday party on Friday 5 June and what better way to celebrate than to welcome back SLOWBURN for an extended 4 hour burner. The guys absolutely cranked it when they made their Torque cellar debut last summer when they rinsed the dancefloor for 3 hours straight til the closing bell and beyond. We are also delighted to have secured the services of MIX & FAIRBANKS for the party, who will be serving up their own unique blend of twisted disco in the laneway out back all night long. As always we go very late!

Slowburn are Phillip Long and David Hargadon, an Irish duo with an analogue sound palette that extends all the way to vintage Chicago, Detroit and New York planes. Much like their alias suggests, the pair are on a measured but magical rise through the underground ranks, and have been since meeting in the booth a few years ago. First introduced to one another in Dublin (at a night where Phil was warming up for Dave), they soon realised their shared plenty of common musical ground, and since then they’ve been churning out an impressive array of productions with considerable success.

Lakuti’s much-revered Uzuri label soon came calling, eventually playing host to Slowburn’s rich and varied sound alongside scene luminaries such as Chicago Skyway, Juju & Jordash and Ksoul & Muteoscillator. A string of releases followed soon after, as the boys followed up on their auspicious start with releases for the likes of Lunar Disko, Apartment, Elecktrosouls and Austere, as well as on a compilation for the always on-point Grounded in Humanity imprint where they appeared alongside Trax legend, Gene Hunt.

“When we make music, we just try and capture the mood at that moment,” say the pair. “We never set out to make anything in particular and we just jam and take things as they come. I guess we usually try to have a strong sense of melody with our pads and always try to and keep a good flow.”

When working together in the DJ booth, Slowburn also share a fine understanding of dancefloor dynamics and infectious groove, and have brought their intricate sounds to a host of seminal Irish festivals as well as Manchester’s DEAF Institute. Always joining the dots between the old and the new, Slowburn are a duo with a deep understanding of the discerning side of house and techno.

MIX & FAIRBANKS (3 hour set in the Laneway/smoking area)

Delectable disco cuts aren’t exactly the order of the day in the countryside of Newbridge, Ireland - but that hasn’t done anything to temper the efforts of the talented duo Gary O’Reilly and Rob Smyth, better known as Mix & Fairbanks. They have gathered a solid local following and continue to build a strong online presence, receiving support from world-renowned remixer Jean Claude Gavri after successfully putting their unique touch to classics such as Another One Bites The Dust, as well as tracks by The Jacksons, Barry White, Hall & Oates and David Bowie. The guys have just secured a Saturday night residency at The Meeting House in Temple Bar and are booked to play a rake of summer festivals, while also releasing their first major track in January 2015.
