Looking for cheap car insurance for a provisional licence the car is a 97 polo 1 litre. I've been getting quotes of €2450 mental prices. Also I'm 26

Kinda like asking how long is a piece of string, insurance is totally subjective to the driver - ring around/do as many online quotes as you can, an insurer who maybe cheap for me might not even quote you.

Call them all, that's when you will find the cheapest.

Get the phonebook out and ring around to a few brokers, and then a few companies too. Unfortunately seeing that there are a lot of variables for each individual quote, me saying whats best for me, may not be the same for you.

Also, there is a concern that the age of the car is going to severely affect your quote. Most insurers get a bit afraid when the car is over 15 years.

Honestly that really isn't a crazy quote. My friend paid over €2100 for his insurance nearly 3 years ago at 17 on a learner permit which was actually an alright quote, and you're in the same boat as him in that you have no experience or no claims bonus.

I'm still paying nearly €1900 with 2 years no claims and with a full license on a 1.0L Yaris

Jaysus. Nowhere would even insure me on my car. Got it for €1750 as a named driver (my dad wanted to be on it anyway as a named driver as a spare, so I just made him primary driver). This country is feckin ridiculous when it comes to new drivers. If they had their way, nobody would ever drive.

Sad truth is, if young fellas would calm down, and calm young fella drivers became a trend, young fellas would have no problem getting insured at a more reasonable rate. While you as an individual might be the safest, most considerate driver on the road, your demographic lives up to its stereotype in terms of involvement in claims.

This is a funny statement as all the near accidents I've been in where women not paying attention cutting corners and this week this women decided she was just going to dive into my lane. Lucky I know where the brake is but I don't think the stereotype is a precise as people make it out to be.

You know, I used to say the same stuff. As, I'd imagine, did many on here.

The actuaries tell a different story though, and they have the figures to back it up.

This is against the terms of the policy, and is fraudulent/illegal though.

But this is how most learner drivers are on the road, even a person I know it's his girlfriends mother who's the policy holder and he's a named learner driver.

It cost me as a learner €1500 on a 01 golf 1.4 at the age of 29 and I'm no longer in the boy racer category but because of everybody doing this fraudulent insurance thing I pay more.

Luckily have a full licence now 1 year no claims, so hopefully €1000 and under.

I have the same car, same experience and am the same age as you and I'm paying €800. I was paying €1050 on my provisional.

Brokers actually recommended it, since there was no chance of insuring me otherwise. I don't know a single person around my age who doesn't do it starting off. I'm only ever in the car with him anyway, and I'll be moving over to my own insurance in a month or so once I've got the full license.

Most places wouldn't even take me in my cousins old 1.1L 98 Peugeot 106 (NCT'd and taxed), and those who did wanted an arm and a leg, because I'm on a previsional.

one of my kids has own car - 05 corsa, aged 20 full licence insurance quoted was 1200e. By paying all in one installment rather than monthly, it came down to 1,000. by then adding me as a named driver it came down to 890euro.

I'm just a named driver, I have my own car in my own name - there is a big difference in this and fraudulently claiming the adult as the primary driver.

I'm shopping around for my first insurance too, it's a 1.2 litre Polo and the results I'm getting from online quotes are pretty varied. One is €930, that seems pretty low for a first time provisional driver, right? I am 32 though, so maybe my age is a factor.

€930 is a decent quote for sure. I think the only place you MIGHT get cheaper is at a broker.

If you are the legal owner of the car, your insurance could be void. My sis had to put the car into her name to do similar with her daughter, while she was learning. The insurance company insisted on this.
