Want to buy a used BMW Coupe

Advice required, willing to spend around 15k. Was looking at a 6 Series but they all seem to be automatic. Ive never driven an automatic, read a few things like higher maintenance so unsure. How are they to drive?

Was also looking at the 3 series 320 coupe. Anyone got any recommendations on what i should be looking out for. Thanks

yeah over 99% of 6 series are auto, to be honest, I think it suits that kind of car better, they are tiptronic, meaning you can change the gears "manually" when you want, by touching a button on the auto lever.

The 3 series coupes from 08 on that are auto, have paddle shifts on the steering wheel, meaning you can go up and down the gears that way.

Will this be your first bmw? the 6 series if stuff goes wrong, can cost a lot to repair...

I would be looking at an E92 325, its a 3 litre petrol engine, the manual has motor tax of E570... Thing is they are needles in a haystack here and the ones that come rarely come up are overpriced IMO...

what kind of mileage do you do and is it town or country roads etc?

the 3L 08+ 325's are quoted as one tenth of a second quicker 0-100 than the 630, with one third the motor tax...

It's a little bizzare to me that someone looking at a 6 Series would rule it out because it's automatic and then be considering a 3 Series. They are sort of at different ends of the spectrum.

Thanks a lot, mileage would be 20k a yr mainly city driving with the odd burst down the motorway prob every 3 weeks. The 6 series coupe looks a bit too big after looking at them, will check out the 3 series coupe, like the 325 or 330 if i can find one. This will be my first BMW, had a ford focus since 2009 and just had to replace the clutch once after 120k mileage. No other costs at all so not used to large maintenance costs bar the annual service.

20,000 miles or km? If you do a lot of city driving, the auto could be perfect, the only way to know if you will like the car, is to test drive it...
