    Hi,
Somebody reversed into my car - car is worth about 1900 eur.
Person admitted liability - repair cost 1100 Eur quoted by an official authorized repair center.

Damage is not too bad - Do I need to get it repaired and would the insurance company give me the 1100 euros instead?

thanks in advance for you advice

This came up about a week ago. You're entitled to €1100, less the VAT if claiming the amount instead.

why without VAT, the figure is for the claimant to repair their cost, if the OP was to get the job done elsewhere, they'd be paying VAT.

Because there is VAT in the quote and if he doesn't get the vehicle repaired, he hasn't incurred VAT, so you cannot claim for it. If he is getting the job done elsewhere and there is VAT in their invoice, he will get it paid, provided the repair is done

This was done to death in a recent thread, like Voodoomelon said, it is just the way it is and there is nothing underhand about it

And the insurance company would also be claiming the VAT back; which means the real cost for the insurance company would be excl. VAT.

What kind of damage was done? €1100 seems like a lot, considering the car is worth €1900.

Insurance Companies are VAT exempt and do not claim it back

You could do €5k worth of damage to a €1k car as well...!

Value of car doesnt come into cost of repair, parts value don't drop with value of car or we all be driving 15 year old cars if it only cost pennies to repair. :D :P
