Thanks to a revenue rebate I have just over €2k sent unexpected to me.

Now I have a current PPL(a) but don't get time or money to do much more than keeping current.

Any ideas on the most flying hours or fun way to spend a couple of grand on flying this summer????

You might spend a lot of money just to get over there, but I'd love to go to an aircraft boneyard in the USA, rent a C172 or other small prop and fly it , looking at all the old planes from above.

Night rating? Albeit hard to do that with the long evenings I guess. :)

Hard to do a night rating this time of year. Not sure it would be that much fun either....

And a night rating is practically useless in Ireland for general aviation. If you could fly VFR at night like in the states it would be good

I wouldn't think it was worth it as the OP says he is just about able to keep current

Thanks but I'd rather you just tell me!

At this rate I'm thinking a few hours in a
172 followed by a high end call girl for the night...

If you can afford it maybe put some money with the €2000 and buy a share in something.

You could do some tailwheel flying. Want to do it myself at some point. It's "real" flying as they say.

    Split it! ;)

Float plane rating with the NFC, or join a club and put up a few hours.

I would put it away in a savings account for when you really need it.. boring, I know, but if you have to ask for advice in what to do with it, that means you don't have your own desires, so why fulfill someone else's?

I'm still just tad bit away from my PPL, nearly there really, I can't wait to get it and when I do, I'll start touring, going places, using the licence what it was intended for - I want to visit Aran Islands, then a UK trip.. once those hours start building and experience growing, maybe a trip to France, Spain.. then whole Europe basically.. it's a plan that comes with a heavy price tag, lots of prep work, lots of effort, patience and so on.. but it's my plan and it keeps me happy

I am not looking to fulfil anyone else's desires! I am merely looking for advice from people with possibly more experience than me on fun aspects of general aviation.

I too had the same level of enthusiasm when I completed the PPL as you have and I have done a fair bit of P1 flying. However the reality is finances, family Irish weather can all get in the way of flying.

I have made sacrifices to keep the PPL current now I have a little extra money and I am just looking on how best to spend it...

Thanks I actually have a tailwheel sign off and most of my flying is now on taildraggers.

Yes you are right it is "real" flying!

see this is what I'm talking about, what makes you so sure, that in 2 years you're not going to be in the same situation if you just blow the money away recklessly? 2k is not that much, it will hardly get you a share, it will not buy you anything that flies, even an Xair.. your options really are either getting a night/float rating or put it forward your next SEP refresher so next time when those 12h are due it wouldn't be such a pain. Play it smart! and maybe get yourself a gopro.. nothing like sitting back and enjoying videos of your trip when the weather outside is frightful..

Check out someone place like Clacton Aero club in Clacton on Sea in Essex for taildragger course.
With your existing experience you could just do is as hourbuilding/farmstrip flying.
They used to have some nice farmstrips in the area and you can also drop in for a visit to Duxford museum as it's not that far away.

Nice way to spend a few days.
Fly Ryanair into Stansted, hire car and you are there in no time.

    Alternatively go for floats.

I am not allowed discuss …
