Allergic to alcohol??

After four, five pints, I'm drunk. Which doesn't bother me, cheap night out, like, and I don't get messy or anything. The problem is the next day. Hangover? Far worse. No headache. But I cant even keep a mouthful of water down, and I'd vomit between 20 - 30 times throughout the day, easily.

Hardly seems like a normal hangover. Allergic, maybe?

You'd really need to seek medical advice about that one. But yes, it doesn't sound like a normal reaction to the consumption of the amount you've described.

I too would recommend speaking to your doctor, but it is certainly possible to have or develop a sensitivity to alcohol.

This reminded me of the chipotle episode of south park, why would you eat something if it's going to make you bleed out of your ass.

I think the same is true for you. If you have this reaction to alcohol perhaps you shouldn't be drinking it.

    Very true.

It's possible to lack the enzymes that metabolise alcohol. You'd need to speak to a doctor about it.

I was similar when I first started drinking. Few pints and I'd often spend the next day or 2 throwing up. I used also get headaches though. 30 years later I never get sick but often still get headaches if I drink 2 much. My advice, drink loads of water during the few hours after you stop drinking and by loads I mean 3 or 4 pints.

Yeah, Im a bit like this too.

I can manage up to about 5 drinks, anything more and Im sick for days afterwards. I wasnt like that when I was younger, its happened as I get older.

Anyway, the easy answer is this - stick to your limit.

possible good news for those you know who are deficient in the enzymes
Raptor is developing Convivia®,for the potential treatment of acetaldehyde toxicity resulting from ALDH2 deficiency. Sometimes referred to as ethanol intolerance or “Asian flush,” ALDH2 deficiency is an inherited metabolic disorder affecting 40-50% of East Asian populations

Wow. Can't help thinking it's a little mental that they're developing a drug to stop your body reacting to another drug that you take for recreation purposes.

    Anyway,

OP - If bananas made you this sick you would stop eating bananas. Swap bananas for almost anything else and you just wouldn't do it. By all means go see your doctor and rule out any underlying medical issues but the answer is really very obvious and very simple.

    Don't drink alcohol.

There could be all sorts of reasons for that, you may have an intolerance for alcohol, or an ulcer, or even highlighting an early problem with your kidneys or liver. It's probably just an alcohol intolerance, alcohol is essentially poison but it would be a good idea to check it out, you might even be able to avoid the issue by avoiding certain types of alcohol once you know the cause.

If it's that bad, don't drink. It's a pretty simple solution really.

Well technically speaking we're all allergic to alcohol as it is toxic after all meaning the right amount will kill you.

Make of that what you will but it's maybe not such an unnatural reaction.

Sounds like the same reason that I have. Alcohol intolerance. Even one drink and is puke up everything that went down, including water. Mine lasted 2-3 days though, after even one drink. Didn't take me long to realise it was alcohol causing it and was confirmed by my doctor afterwards. Haven't had a drink since new year's eve 1999.

Is it just beer that does it, or any alcoholic drinks? Do any foods give you a bad reaction out of curiosity? Run it past your doctor, obviously avoid something that's not agreeing with you but it's nice to be able to have a tipple so would be good if you can isolate an allergy.
I am stuck to the loo if I drink even a moderate amount of beer, pasta and bread do me no favours either..also avocados? - though aside from diagnosis of IBS I don't know. I've no issues with wine (unless I drink more than 3 or 4, in which case I get a hangover)
