Eircom won't put broadband line in house despite the entire road with next gen broadb

I am moving house in a few week to the house right next door to the one I'm currently in. In this on I have next gen broadband from Eircom at 20mbs but I'm trying to get Eircom to install a line in the new house that's only a few feet away. A guy came out to check the lines and said we'd need a pole erected and it would take a few weeks. Everything was good, we waiting and waited and when there was no more activity we called to ask when is the process going to start as we'd like to have broadband setup soon after we move in and we were told that all they could do was install some dish on the house and feed a line into it but it would only be able to operate phone calls but no broadband. We found this strange as the guy who originally came out said everything was good to go and all the house both before us and after us have broadband. There was no proper explanation as to why they couldn't extend a broadband line into our home despite broadband existing right next door. Has anyone heard of this before, know what I can do to get them to put broadband in or if a competitor company like Sky would do it instead (have no UPC here)?

Sky and the other ones just use the Eircom line anyway, so if they won't install it you are screwed.

I literally wouldn't move anywhere that wasn't UPC enabled.

A cousin is living in the sticks in Kildare and Eircom told him there was no problem getting him internet, they would just need to do a few bits and pieces. Then he would need a telephone line, and a few other bits. Most of this was chargeable to him.

Then after a few weeks of nothing and he got in touch they advised his house was never capable of broadband and not sure why all that work was done.

Needless to say he is looking into legal avenues.

I lived in Donabate and had weekly calls with Eircom and MAgnet for about 8 months of my 12 months there. They "enabled" next-gen, which was basically doing 30% of the area and then moving on calling it done. They were charging me €67 a month for a 24mb ADSL line. I eventually got most of my fees back when I cancelled due to the nightmare it was.

Genuinelly would not go near them again, and its the no.1 factor in house choice for me, is UPC available.

Stupid me though, got burnt living with my parents by Eircom years ago, so should have known better.

Does this require poles on private land? If so you will have to foot the bill or duct to meet the Eircom network. They will no longer cover the cost of poles on private land, they did a few weeks ago.
