Waterproofer in plaster

I have had a friend advise me not to allow my plasterer to use waterproofer in the external scratch coat or the internal walls. He maintains that it should only be used on the external finished coat. He believes there will be issues with bonding in years to come. He says he has seen large patches of plaster peeling off as a result. My understanding is that it is needed to make the plaster workable and that it is used in each layer as standard practice.

On a separate issue anybody know the cause of red colour breaking out in plaster and running down the wall and how to best avoid it?

Your friend knows sweet fanny adams about what he is talking about , think about it, if you were to put water proof in any coat it wouldn't be the finish coat . It's a much better product than plasticiser and much easier to work with .

On the red colour ,its just the natural minerals in the same seeping out over the years, it can be power hosed off if the house isn't painted, if it is painted just contact your painter and get him to power hose and repaint
