Hello, excuse my lack of knowledge, I am a newbie to flying but what is the cheapest option(s) for flying from Dublin to Tokyo round trip and is there a direct flight from flying from Dublin to Tokyo or will I have to board another flight on the way to my destination? Any advice is much appreciated!

It depends on when you're flying and how long you're staying for. I looked at a calendar of June for 10 day stays and the cheapest I found was KLM via Amsterdam for €590 which looks like very good value to me. There are no direct flights from Ireland to Japan.

If you are new to flying, Amsterdam is the easiest of the European airports to transit through IMO. Avoid Heathrow and Charles de Gaulle.

Finnair are also very good via helsinki.

I flew SAS through Copenhagen I think. That was around 600 euro. It's a long long flight. Stopover was short enough.

I flew with Turkish last October for about €650 open jaw. They are a great airline but it's a longer flight time compared to London/Paris/Amsterdam.

Worth considering though. Tokyo is amazing. Enjoy!

We flew in March via Frankfurt with Lufthansa who were brilliant. Lots of good fares available around the sub 600 mark for this September/October, yes we loved Tokyo/Japan so much we are already checking out options for a return visit!

Use Skyscanner to determine your options, but there are lots as already pointed out.

    Will +1 this.
Lufthansa got us to Tokyo (Haneda) for roughly 550e each during the height of Hanami.

It did involve a brief stop over in FRA, but it was honestly pretty hassle free.
    DUB -> FRA -> HND

Haneda being much closer to Tokyo then Narita.
    Didn't have any issues.

Heathrow has got MUCH better since BA moved their Dublin-London flights to Terminal 5.

If you're flying long haul with BA, then once you make sure to pick BA operated flights for that sector (rather than Aer Lingus) transferring flights is a doddle as you don't have to change terminals, and T5 is a nice place!!

As most of the fares are similar, i would then look at the following:

    1: Flight total time
    2: Seat pitch - seatguru.com
    3: Entertainment
    4: Aircraft type

For example these are some of the seating options:

    ANA B777 Economy pitch 34 width 16.5
    BA B777 Economy pitch 31 width 17.5
    LH B744 Economy pitch 31 width 17.5

So if you are a tall person you might prefer the 34 pitch and if a large person, you might prefer the 17.5 width

LH operates a B748 on their FRA -> HND route.

I've just booked flights to Tokyo (from Edinburgh) flying back from Osaka in October for £360 with Turkish Airlines.

A quick look at Dublin for the same dates shows £350 to Tokyo return.
