I would imagine there's loads but I've been to three rock in Dublin and Ballinastoe in Wicklow, both are great - not too long either should be good for a beginner, just as always go at your own pace...

The official Coillte trails are in Ballinastoe and 3-Rock, they've just installed a new track from just above the barrier at the car park of Ticknock.

Nothing else official which is suitable for beginners, unless you have a bit of experience and know your way around...

Depends if you are a complete beginner or have some cycling experience - Massey Wood or Phoenix Park. Lower trails in Ticknock are beginner friendly. Maybe try one of the classes at Ballinastoe (Biking.ie).

There's a few trails in the Phoenix park, for the very basics.

Was up at ticknock yesterday to check out the new trails.

One question, why haven't the maps on the website plus car park been updated. i.e. How are we supposed to know about the trails? Hopefully they are waiting until they have completed some more.

The new trails are fairly tame, but great for beginners, also the quite a lot of single track up hill(unless I was going the wrong way) which is good. Just wondering if I'm missing some newly opened trails.

From the master plan below I think I was on 3 and 1, have any of the others been opened?

Holy shi.... that's a big map!!

That new trail just off the tarmac climb after the carpark is the only new one so far, it's called the "Kiddies Highway" probably because a 2yr old could cycle down it easily and it's as smooth as the M50! :D

I preferred the natural trails that were there previously, but, Coillte as far as i know are obliged by law to have a certain percentage of the land they managed assigned for recreational purposes, so hence the new "narrow fireroad" trails.

Never been in there but if it's possible to get across Massy estate you can the go into Curragh wood and the Tribadden wood along the Dublin way, the on to Two Rock and Three Rock. Technically the path is for walkers so be nice to them, also from memory some bits are fairly steep.

    See map:

There was some discussion about this route earlier in the year.

There is a walking trail via Masseys wood to Cruagh Road - I have only ever cycled it going down from Cruagh to Masseys.
