    Hi all,
I'm preparing for a HM in 6 weeks time. Doing a 10k in st. Anne's on Sunday as part of the prep, to guage where I am. What kind of pace should I be aiming for at this stage ?
Should I be able to do the 10k @HM target pace by now or how far off should I be ?

I just want some idea of a target for the 10k to judge progress towards the HM goal.

I'm up to 16k on the long runs, will build that up to about 24k before the HM race.

    Thanks,
    F.

now thats a very hard question to answer...

have you ran a 10k before? and what time have you done it in?
I would run the the 10k and see how you get on, and from their think about your time, if you havent done many races, then just aim to get around. and go from their
    good luck

I did 1:38 HM last year, want to be close to 1:30 this year.
No 10k races so far, did about 43mins last year according to Garmin.

I agree with you that I should just run the 10k and based on that, set target for the HM, but I would like to have a rough target in my head before starting - don't want to go too easy or too hard and not know where I really stand.

Hopefully I'll be on right track, if not I'll re-assess the target.

    Thanks,
    F.

Thats a good time, funnily enough 2 years ago i ran 1:38 approx for hm and my 10k times was approx 43 mines, now my time for hm is 1:31 and 10k is 41:54,
so am going to try and get under the 90 in 2 weeks, probably need to get my 10 time down to under 41 though, but sure i will give it a try
    good luck,

Ha, your current times are also very similar to mine. I did a 1.37 half followed by a 42.46 10k a few weeks later in 2014.

I'm also doing St Annes on Saturday followed by a half on June 1st. My "A" goals for both races are 39.59 and 89.59. I understand that these are lofty goals but they are set off a 5k pb of 19.15 from 2 weeks ago and if I miss out on them I have fairly sfst PBs that I hope to break.

If I was a few weeks into a HM training plan coming off decent base fitness I would hope to be able to do 10k @ HMP 6 weeks out in a race senario. This would mean a 42.40 at HMP on Sunday if you are tergeting sub 90 for the half. If you have not raced a 10k before you might surprise yourself.

If I was you I would race the 10k flat out. It will give you a better guage of where you are at IMO.

How has your training been going to date? Do you feel that you are fitter/faster then when you ran the 43 min garmin 10k?

Right now, I'm probably not as fit .... given another few weeks I'll definitely be stronger and fitter than I was. Hopefully I surprise myself :)

    Thanks for the advice all,
    F.

Run by effort rather than time. I've been trying to move away from time based running and to just run at a pace I feel I can hold for the distance.

    Howdy all,
went with target of 43:20 in the end. Was going well until about 7.5k when I really started to suffer. Recovered for last km and finished around target.

Lots to do if I want to make my main goals this summer !

    Enjoyed it though.
