Household benefits

Here's a very good question I just thought of. I'm sure there's people on here who'd like to know the answer to this too.

Johnny applies for DA in lets say March 2014. He is refused and appeals this decision.

At the time Johnny is 30-31 living at home due to the nature of his mental and/or physical disability. His dad is 68-69. His dad cannot qualify for household benefits because of means testing as Johnny is on ilness/SWA nor can Johnny because he is awaiting his appeal.

Johnny wins his appeal in lets say February 2015 and payment starts in April a couple of days before his dads 70th. His appeal goes back to the date the SW received his application March 2014.

Question: Is Johnny or his dad entitled to be reimbursed for these missed household benefits as the appeal deemed him to be unfit for work at the date he submitted his application?

I'm going to say yes> he should be back paid/credited to the date he applied

I am not 100% though - Welfare works in mysterious ways

Yes with regards to back payment of Household Benefits. Mine was backdated to the date the initial DA application was received. I cannot speak however to the eligibility of the payment as it is means tested. Having said that I don't think there should be any problems.
