protein payments bps

    read something yesterday where peas,beans and lupins qualify for an extra payment under the bps think 240 euro/hectare, do they have to be a stand alone crop or can they be mixed in with triticale or whatever?

    In this neck of the woods the protein element must be at least 51% of the mix.
    It's a payment to encourage protein crops to stop our dependence on soya.

    No one likes peas as need a strong blowing wind on the warmest day of the year to cut or else are a nightmare the other 2 are a lottery yeild wise :rolleyes:.

    Yes, I don't like peas but I think Whelan would be thinking on ensiling them.

    Peas are best for a bit of pigeon shooting!

    Find out what % of Lupins you need and go buy extra seed if needed to qualify.
    Simples.

    What kind of silage does that give you can i ask?
    Used to whole crop peas and Sbarley with 2nd cut ontop to seal better, if anything hide from rats etc!!

    maize doesnt grow on my land , so have been growing this the last few years , throw it in pit and cover with some grass silage to keep the crows away
