Has Your Vote Been Bought?

    Has Your Vote Been Bought?

Question worth asking, I think ...

$64,000,000 can buy a lot of influence. Have you been bought?

Over the past few years a lot of overseas money has gone into the groups promoting a change in the definition of marriage (see below). Those opposing the change have had many posters taken down illegally and have had very poor access to a supine print media. The NO argument has been pre-judged and many have been made afraid of voicing it. Some young people haven’t thought beyond the ‘equality’ sloganeering. Politicians have little to say about the lack of democracy, and nearly all have refused proper debates settling for a trite ‘gra is the law’.

I haven't read that but that's the great thing about Minty. He can't be bought and he usually votes no to everything to spite everyone.

I'm really going to enjoy voting on Friday. Wish I could do it twice.

I'm actually apparently registered twice. As a random polling card showed up at my parents. I say random because one hasn't appeared for the last six years and I'm registered in a different county. If I was up for the four hour road trip I could probably vote twice

I've seen almost no yes campaign material online. Every time I use YouTube it's another No campaign video! It's so in your face I've had to install blocking software.

They've also got significant as purchase on Facebook.

Honestly I'm getting sick of the conspiracy theories. The yes side isn't particularly well funded they were scraping around for €50k to do a leaflet drop nationally. Most of that is small donations of €50 to €100.

This isn't America. Even if you wanted to buy big TV and radio campaigns you can't.

Thousands of people and certainly most influential social media people are on the Yes side because they believe in equality, they're gay-friendly and socially progressive. There wasn't any reason to "buy" them - sometimes people actually believe in a cause!

I'm really looking forward to Saturday afternoon, when grim troglodytes like Iona and 'Mothers and Fathers (suddenly) Matter (but they didn't when we were shoving children into religious-run institutions and priest-riddled rape dens)' find themselves on the wrong side of history. Again.

The no side are really playing dirty by bringing surrogacy, children need a mother and claiming they'll get arrested if they don't teach the kids about gay marriage.

    Shame on you.

Heh, if anything the crowd I've seen with the deepest pockets and who've been flooding material the most have been the No side.

"have had very poor access to a supine print media"

If only many members of the groups against it were often writing for newspapers.

Also that website comes across as slightly biased. Everything is from groups supporting a no vote. Im fed of of being bullied with claims that my vote has been bought or that im too stupid to think for myself unless I listen to them.

Yes, my vote has been bought by the Catholic Church and Iona Institute.

No matter how hard I try to think of a reason to vote No, they constantly reassure me that a Yes vote is the right thing to do.

I think I have seen 1 No video on Youtube. All I seem to be seeing these days is ads for Amazon.

Showing an ad to 1 million people (well 1 million viewings anyway) would cost about 5K. It is hardly magical money.

If someone wants to pay me, they're welcome to. It won't change how I vote, but I'll pretend it did.

Secretly I'm just going to carry on deciding how I vote by firing up the my thinkmuscle and not being a dickhead.

    Wouldn't go counting chickens.
It's gonna be a lot closer than the 70-30 the polls are predicting.

Just curious, where are you getting more reliable information than the polls from? :pac:

Well I can hardly say Im surprised. Oddly there is a link between all of these people and religious organisations. Its as if instead of having 1 strong group they rather have 10 groups with 5 people in each with at least 1 person being in 2 groups.
