Can't really fault them.... Although one of the first things I'd do is bin the seats and fit something better. Anyone who tells you they are comfy is a complete liar

I'd probably put in a bucket seat for the drivers

Had one myself, 1999 or 2000, great little yoke.
Have a read of the general "what to do when buying used"

    Did you have a 1.3 or 1.6

Some Toyota Corollas 2000s engines burnt oil

Thanks any idea of a price? Can be plain as I'm going to put a kit on it and a spoiler

Just buy a car that's already been ruined. Modified.
Car might be worth €1000-1250. You'd need to be spending that again and more on a kit to get something that doesn't look stupid.
No point in setting out to buy a money pit. Bodykit adds no value to the car, let someone else take the hit.

Or just spend the money you'd spend on Corolla + bodykit on something better?

    A standard g6 or g6r perhaps?

Be sitting down when you get insurance quotes for a G6r anyway.

Thanks for the information. Would insurance be much for a 1.6 . I know it's different for everyone but any idea

It depends on the driver. I take it you're not a 43 year old teacher doing 6,000km a year with 10 years no claims!

Default advice in this situation is buy something like a 1.0 polo, keep it fairly stock and spotless, build up ncb and buy something better in a few years.

Body kits and done up corollas thankfully died out in the recession in all but the smallest of towns.
The only people who'll think it's any way cool is other 17 year old lads.

I don't think it's cool I just like my car to look nice . I wouldn't have a straight through exhaust or anything like that. I don't want a polo anyway. I'll insure it my my parents name nd I'll b a named driver

We had Toyota's twice as a family car a Corolla was one of them. Reliable machines the Toyota's are and tend to last. Seems to be the case for most Japanese cars!

Those corollas don't take too well to aftermarket kits at all. Anything bar genuine Toyota add ons look very tacky on these.

Was looking recently for a corolla for my nephew.found it impossible to find a 97-02 one that wasnt trashed, moded, or in the case of the vvti's burning oil.switched to looking at the 02-07 model and after a bit of a search got a clean 04 3 door that had no mods,no sign of burning oil. Miles were a bit high at 170k, but had it checked out by a mechanic.got it for 2k, so happy days.

Having said that if it were me I'd start with a yaris a build up the no claims. Cheap to run and ultra reliable.might be expensive to buy, but you'll get most back when selling on. Fiesta is also a cracking car. My nephew had his mind set on a corolla and that was that.

Colm not sure what its like round your way.but the boy racers have moved from corollas to mk1 avensis up here.

Not 100% sure.but i think that if both your parents have cars with each being a policy holder on one of them, then they wouldn't be able to take out a policy on another car and add you as a named driver.could be wrong though.

One of our cars is a Corolla , and the best free-maintenance car we've ever had .

Two services a year , and very little else to do .

Best of luck trying to get insured on a Toyota Corolla as a 17yr old male student.. I tried to get insured on a 1.4vvti one when I was in the same position as you and I got a quote of €5,500 (TPFT, and had parents added on to try bring down the premium).

If you REALLY need a car and you cant get insured on your parents car for a year or so, then the likes of a Polo 1ltr or Fiesta 1.25ltr are very good choices to recommend.

    A 1.3 or 1.4 Corolla not a 1.6

It was a 1.4 .. And from what I can figure out with car insurance, the older the car the more expensive it is to get insured on! (But thats only with my own understanding - maybe its just my own details)

Some insurers also refuse to insure cars over a certain age for young drivers.ring a broker and try to insure roughly what you are after to see what you get.
