Shooting into the sun

Hi folks,

I'm doing some shooting of action clips over the summer with GoPro 3 hero black+ and 4 Blacks. Shooting at 4K 30FPS and 2.5K 30FPS.

On a test run over the weekend, we did some sunrise and sunset shooting. The into the sun shots were blown out.

Does anyone have advice on how you can counter that for a shot that looks more like this: http://postimg.org/image/fekydahgr/ and less like this: http://postimg.org/image/ynsi5hbb9/

You'd need some filters, there are a range of them out there which can go from purpose built systems that allow you to use a camera lens filter to a small piece of plastic you can slip into the case.

I got this 3stop ND filter but it's not great. It's really heavily softening out the image and degrading the quality.

You basically need a camera where you can control the exposure. Filters won't really do anything except change the colour balance (the GoPro will just automatically re-adjust it's exposure once it's applied)

Put it into protune mode. Color flat, auto, 400 iso. Then when editing, use one of the protune lut's and finetune it. You'll grab way more of the parts that are blown out and the parts that are too dark.
