    Hi all

Stuck zoology down as a 2nd year pathway. Did it in first year through biology and loved it but whats with the high fail rate?
Anyone on here that has studied zoology at nuig clear this up for me.

Is it simply down to it being tough out or more a case of people not bothered their hole showing up for lectures/labs as in 1st year and then wondering why they failed?

    Cheers y'all

If you like the subject, then take it. It's far more important that you are actually interested in a subject. Otherwise you wont stick it for long.

The latter OP. I did it because it was interesting. Loads of people don't show up and do sweet f all for it. If you go to lectures and do a little study you'll have no problems. I actually really liked the material. The lectures can be kind of boring at times, but that's the same for every subject. Overall I'm happy I took it and would do it again.
(One of the lecturers - Colin - is grouchy, I think he has some kind of social aversion thing going on though, lol.)

Ah I was thinking as much.. I'm sure its not a walk in the park but it can't be that bad at the same time.. Colin Lawton? Had him this year but only for a few lectures. They all seem to keep their distance from us lowly students by the looks of it haha

They get friendly in 3rd year, so you're still not there yet. You'll enjoy the zoology though. It really isn't that hard. If you like it you'll do pretty well. Best of luck anyway.

You'll be fine. I didn't take Zoology but I think the high fail rate is based on the exam only, when continuous assessment is factored most people pass. As far as I know most subjects have a similar fail rate. From what I've heard though it is a tough subject, and the staff aren't helpful. Out of about ten people I knew who took it in second year only two intend on taking it in final year.

You can change your mind and move into another subject in September provided there's room available and you don't leave it too late to switch.
