Makeup after eye laser

I got lasik done in Friday and am amazed by the results so far. I have been really cautious with after care and am terrified of getting infection etc. I have been told not to use any eye make up for two weeks. How I am going to survive I don't know. I was just wondering if anyone here has any post eye laser tips regarding make up. When did you start wearing makeup again? Is there any good mascara or makeup remover you could recommend that may be gentle in the eyes?

Also, how long did you have to wait before getting eye lash tint and/or eye brow shape?

I would wager the big reason for being advised to not wear eye make up for a few weeks is that eye make up is often a breeding ground for bacteria, especially mascara.

I haven't had laser eye surgery so can't comment from personal experience. But in general unnecessarily exposing healing woulds to bacteria is a bad idea and eye infections can be particularly nasty/dangerous so probably best to err on the side of caution.

My friend got her laser eye surgery done a few months back and waited the two weeks before wearing make up. She was told to be cautious when doing things that would rub the eyelid (i.e. blending out eyeliner, removing mascara) for at least a month afterwards, but she didn't have any issues wearing make up. Her specialist said that though the eyes are a self cleaning organ, the incision sites normally remain sensitive for the two weeks post operation, but he recommends being at the very least careful for up to a month just to make sure the eye heals correctly.

Best make up remover would be ones that require the least amount of rubbing. I can't remember the one she used (I think it was a bi-phase Clinique or Lancome one) but she used to soak cotton pads, hold them to her eyelids, and all her eye makeup used to come away in a gentle swipe.

I had my eyes lasered twice (Lasek) and waited the full two weeks before applying any eye make-up. I think I probably took it easy with the eye makeup for another couple of weeks after that - just a sweep of mascara.

I was also advised not to use any open mascaras I had - due to bacteria - so to be on the safe side I dumped the ones I had and just invested in new ones.

In terms of eye make up remover, I just used the same one I always had - Clinique take the day off for lids, lashes and lips - and it was fine - just take it easy.

I wasnt getting my eyebrows done at the time so cant comment but you can always ring and ask the clinic where you got it done.

I had my eyes lasered (LASIK) in 2011. After a couple of days, I wore some light foundation, avoiding the cheek bone to eyebrow area.

After a week, at my check up I asked about make up. They said my 'wounds' had perfectly healed and I was allowed wear some light eye make up like a gentle application of eyeshadow. I was allowed to gradually ramp this up until I had full mascara and inner eyeliner after 3 weeks.

What they really didn't want me wearing was stuff that would require a thorough rubbing to remove, like mascara normally does. Something that required a gentle wipe was fine after 1 week.

Obviously this was specific to me so make sure to ask your clinic when you see them next!

In terms of eyelash tint, I would wait at least a month as the beautician may not be gentle when removing the tint. The eyebrows should be earlier though as further away from eye!

Thanks guys. That is super helpful. Got the all clear yesterday but I'm still going to be cautious. I think in going to keep on embracing the natural look for a while. I got yumi lashes done two weeks before lasik and they not holding up too bad.
