    Hi there,
I was wondering if anybody has advice on how one would go about setting up a course in a college of further education.
It is something I would be very interested in doing - I work in software development and would love to set up an introductory course for adults..... ultimately I would love to teach full time (I was a maths teacher in a previous life & successfully ran a maths department in an international school) but for starters, I would try with an evening course.
I know I should contact my local college where I am interested in teaching but I was wondering if anybody has advice on how to get started? And what would be required?

I'm sure if you approach the evening school co-ordinator, he or she would be amenable to offering your proposed course on their evening schedule. You'd want to get in there pretty quick though, as they will be setting this up now, getting brochures organised and so on before they leave for the summer.

You wouldn't be able to set up a course in the day time college if you don't work there...I don't think the other teachers would be too happy to see someone walking in off the street and taking their hours! They only have a certain allocation of students and hours and they have to allocate staff to courses on that basis.

Check the ETB doesn't offer 'your' course elsewhere. That may be an issue.

    Where are you based?

yep if you are going for an evening course you should act now for the sept kick off, daytime is only if you are employed as a fully qualified teacher, and these job vacancies pop up on etbvacancies, you need both a teaching qualification and a computer science degree to apply though so be warned, it would help if you indicated where you are based
