I know Ancestry and the like provide professional research services but what about independent providers, how do the uninitiated go about finding a genealogist to research on their behalf? We've managed to research back 5 generations and we're hitting a brick wall, I want to consider getting some professional assistance to continue the search.

    The NLI has a list.

Do remember though that a professional may not be able to get passed your brick wall. Ask for a quote first!

Any idea what ballpark what kind of fees a researcher would be looking for? I have some links in my tree to other trees I found from the 1800's I am not 100% of I would be interested in a second opinion.
