Armed Checkpoints on M50 and other areas

Just thought I'd post this so nobody sh!tes themselves meeting this some evening on the M50.

Due to an increase in burglaries including South Dublin suburbs they are launching this campaign which will include armed checkpoints on the M50.

I myself know of a dozen burglaries in these areas through family and friends being victims in the last few months, one of which a neighbour gave chase and the stolen car headed northbound on the m50 where he couldn't keep up.

Worth a shot in my opinion, if they are in a stolen vehicle there's nowhere to run.

A checkpoint on a motorway is a foolish idea for safety. ANPR on the overhead bridges is what they need if they want to target a specific car anywhere on the network and not go back to solutions used 100 years ago at the time of the Model T.

How does that catch them in the act and with the stolen goods? They are driving to and from the burglaries in stolen cars so how is ANPR going to tell the guards where they can find them?

seems a bit odd how its getting started in the Blackrock, Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey area when the cars seem to be stolen in the Kildare, South Dublin & North side area's and they aren't exactly near the M50 ???????
