Sherco 290 clutch problem

I'm having a problem with the clutch on my bike, it won't seem to work at all on my sherco 290. I've tried bleeding the air from the line, and running the bike for 20 minutes to see if the clutch plates loosen up, but nothing so far. I know there are problems with the sherco clutches until the engine warms up, but I can't seem to get this one sorted at all. There is plenty of .4 fluid in the reservoir too.

Has anyone experienced this problem/found a fix for it?

It sounds as though the plates have stuck together from sitting.
Have you tried putting it in gear and rocking it back and forward?
Try pulling the clutch cover off and seeing what the clutch basket looks like, if the fingers that separate the fibre disc tangs are all notched then take the basket off and file the notches smooth and refit.
This will also allow you to separate the plates as well.
Once they are oiled and refitted they should be good again, as they sit for a long time the clutch springs force the oil out from between them and they stick together, couple that with notched basket and it adds up to trouble.

Thanks, I'll give that a try over the next few days and see if it works then.

my Gas Gas 250 does this all the time - if it doesn't free up after 10 mins going up and down the field slipping it & driving on the brake etc, then just pull the clutch cover and separate them by hand.

If it's like my bike, just put it on it's side and they're designed to be fixed in the field (sic), so it's really easy. 20 minutes should do it.

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Better buy up some parts for the Gasser now, The factory has moved into bankruptcy proceedings as of the 19th.
Big shame as they made some fantastic machines over the years.
Its not looking good for them at this point.

    Did Ya get it sorted?

My Beta 250 slips for about 30 seconds after a cold start, if I knock it into gear it just jumps off and it won't cold start in gear ether. I found ATF works best to counteract it and I can kick it in gear once it's warm now.

    Is your one 4 stroke?

I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, I'll get it done at the weekend for sure. It's a 2 stroke engine I had here.

Have you tried different oil in the gearbox? A light gear oil or aft might help

Sorry I'm just getting back to you know, I was working on other things lately. I didn't change the oil, but here is where I am so far:

So, an update on the bike. Well I eventually got the clutch case open, there was plenty of oil in there anyway. The plates themselves are in good condition from what I saw briefly, I'll have a closer look tomorrow to see if there are any nicks or scratches that might be affecting them, but it seems they are not the problem now.

As for the clutch handle-there seems to be bubbles coming into the fluid reservoir when I pull the clutch handle. I tried bleeding the line but the clutch is gone totally limp now, there isn't any resistance at all. The bubbles seem to be seeping in from the base of the handle where the seal is. I'll probably have to get a new mastercylinder pump and that's going to cost money. The bleed nipple also broke when I was opening it but that isn't too expensive to replace.

Well at least I have the problem narrowed down now anyway, I suppose you have to take the sour with the sweet when it comes to bikes :)
