Reconditioned Engine Mechanic, Dublin

    Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations on a good mechanic to provide and fit a reconditioned engine in Dublin. I've found a few places on donedeal / adverts etc. and the prices they are asking seem reasonable from what I have been searching. Two places quotes €1150 to provide the reconditioned engine and fit it while another guy said €1000. All with three months warranty. Checking in Cork I was told €1200. Its for a 04 astra (so barely worth €1200).

I'm looking for recommendations from people who have gotten it done as its very hard to find any info on the guys I've found online.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Just looking on carzone, 04 Astras are going for about €2500. Mileage about 100K miles.

I'm not looking to spend money I don't have on a new car and if I fix this (NCT'd until Feb next year and taxed) I can use it for a year or so and sell it on, albeit for a lower price due.

So all I'm looking for is recommendations really as I know the price is around the €1150 mark.

A fella local to me(county Limerick) fitted a secondhand engine to the sisters avensis for 600. I can pm you his number if it's any good to you, but I just noticed you said Dublin

I guess a secondhand engine is a good bit cheaper than reconditioned as its just taken and fitted, not reconditioned? Thats what the IVI crowd do as far as I can gather?

Searching through the threads there were a few people had good experiences with reconditioned engines but never posted feedback on who they were and the accounts they used were ghost accounts.

Is it the newer or older shape Astra? I'd be thinking that it's not worth it to be honest, especially if it's the older shape car.

Yep just taken from another car. The mechanic said he knew the engine and had serviced it himself over the last few years, and it only had 90k miles on it. It was a 00 avensis she had it fitted to to. In her case it was the best option as to change to something else was bound to cost more than 600 and you know nothing at all about any replacement.

I have never had this done OP, but I know mechanic on the naas road that has always done excellent work for myself and the brother. I can pm you his number if you like... Put it this way, when I was in Rathgar motor factors asking for a local recommendation, the guy gave me his details and referred to the others in the area as rip off merchants, which they are in comparison to this guy...

Summerhill spares in darndale advertise that they do engine swaps. Might be worth a call.
