hate to bring this topic up but does any one have a car fitted with the "dreaded" 1.6 diesel engine above and if so what are your thoughts on it?

how long do you have the car and mileage covered? what problems? and how often is it serviced etc

    thanks

    Roy

AFAIK they are pretty much the same engines.

If they have high mileage then stay away. I'd recommend the 1.8tdci engine instead of the 1.6 also.

The 1.8 TDCi is nothing to write home about either. They like flywheels and the newer ones with the "wet" timing belt has been known to snap before it's scheduled change interval, not a cheap job to have changed either.

Still stronger than the 1.6tdci .. Our Mondeo has just over 200k km and its clutch got replaced 5 months ago for the first time..

If you are considering the 1.8tdci then definitely check out the wet timing belt, at bazz stated. They are usually due to be replaced at 180k km cost approx €1200 to do.

I have a 05 Focus 1.6tdci with 330,000km on it (from new). Always serviced on the button. Got the injector washers replaced last December and is still running well.

Like all engines, once you take care of it, it will take care if you.

We had a 1.6vtr+ Citroen and found the engine good. It was 130 bhp, decent to drive and economical. Serviced as per the recommended interval.
We put about 160k on the car and sold with just shy of 200k on the clock and still returning 50+ mpg. This was in a C4GP so a fair size of a car, I'd say in smaller cars they must be even better matched.

Was it remapped as they only came from the factory with 90/95bhp or 110/115bhp.

    Gosh.
It's gone now but I'm 99% it was 128 on the liscencing cert.
It was a good engine, suspension got a bit rattly and loose approaching 200ks so we moved it on.
