    What's the difference between these 2 types of contracts or are they the same type?

    Different. Fixed term means a defined finishing date for employment. Fixed purpose could be something like a maternity leave, if the employee takes parental leave or unpaid leave to follow your term of employment would also be extended. You are there to cover until the other person returns.

    Fixed purpose could also be for a subject being phases out of a school, so in a couple of years time the hours will no longer exist
