Oven Not Heating ?

    Hi Guys,

Turned on my oven today ( Candy ) and while preheating I seen a spark come from inside the oven.

I turned the oven off, left it for a while, but now when I turn it on it won't heat up.

Some googling suggests I may have blown the element. Would any of you experts be able to confirm just on the basis of the above ? Also, does anyone know the ballpark figure I would be looking at to get it repaired ?

    Thanks.

I would imagine that it's most likely the element alright.

Cost wise, I'd hazard a guess at maybe 60-100eur to get it repaired, depending where you live, etc. (eg. services might be more expensive in Dublin).

What you need to do is turn off the cooker power, then pull it out (may need to undo screws first).
Take the back off your cooker (pro tip to remove front door first as they make up a lot of the weight).
Element is wired through 2 spade connectors which should be visible.
Undo these & tape them away from each other so they don't short out once you power up again.
Look into the cooker itself & you should see some screws which come off to reveal the element itself.
There may be 2 other screws then to release the element.

Now identify it by checking on espares & make sure it has the exact same spade connectors as yours.
Now check ebay or some of the Irish suppliers for a better cost.
You should get one delivered for under €40.

In the meantime refit the main plate you'll still be able to use the upper grill element as normal.
Probably a video on youtube if you're really stuck.

Cheers for the reply. Most helpful. Going to get a replacement part and hopefully DIY it. :)

You may not necessarily need to take the back off. In some cases all can be done from the front/inside after removing the cavity back plate. Still try and remove the door though, as it can get in the way or break!
