EBay Returns - Buyer damaged item

    Hi,

A buyer returned an item to me with the reason stated as "change of mind, don't want it anymore". Bit ridiculous but I offer returns anyway so no big deal.

I got the item back and it's damaged (was perfect when I sent it). It's not fit for sale anymore so I really don't want to offer a refund now.

Anyone have this happen then before and how do eBay usually side on this?

The refund amount is also pending on my PayPal, any idea if I can cancel this?

    Thanks

    Hi,

eBay will side with the buyer no matter what, UNLESS the buyer has a record of doing this to others. They might give him a refund out of their own pocket, but you still get a "Defect". You need to keep an eye on these in your seller dashboard as if not kept an eye on they can get you kicked off eBay. Photos/Videos etc doesn't matter eBay don't care and will refund him. "Buyers Opinion" "We didn't see the item" etc is the usual lines the agents have to say.

If its a low cost item - refund and move on and add him to your Blocked Bidder List. DO NOT leave him bad feedback with a green mark. If you are going this route - Kill him with kindness and hopefully he won't leave you a neg.

Did he send the item back to you with a tracking number?

He is supposed to and he will need to enter this into the "Case" he has opened. He needs to prove you received the item, same way when you post you need to prove he got it.

You can also report it to AuctionFraud and get a crime reference number. They are UK Police department who deal with fraud (maybe he is doing this to other) . So when you get the Reference Number from them, you can pass this to eBay.

It shouldn't matter about you being in Ireland once your buyer is in the UK.
