    Hi Forum

Just today I had a rather odd encounter with my neighbor (who is slightly odd) who landed at my door in an aggressive manner basically saying its illegal for me to record her property (Im assuming on video). I am doing no such thing as I couldn't be slightly interested in whatever insane ideas she is up-to. Any advice on how to deal with said neighbor as I don't like being falsely accused of anything and I'm slightly concerned that she would go as far to call the Garda.

Let her go to the Gards then, you're not recording, nothing to see here and jog on.

I've 4 camera's around my property, my neighbours are very aware of them, when I installed them I showed them where they were recording, there's no law stopping anyone recording their property.

Offhand the restrictions are on recording personal information: ie that which would identify a person. So for instance pointing a webcam at someone's tree/fence, while a waste of bandwidth, would not seem at first glance to breach those Data protection acts.

If your not recording her property and not up to anything that might be of interest to the gardai you have nothing to worry about.
Keep note of any contact with neighbor.
Really I wouldn't even be bothered if I got a solicitors letter untill a time that a court date is set even at that they would need proof that you were recording.
I have a camera on the road that takes in next doors drive they are happy enough that it's there

I'd have as little to do with her as possible, tbh. If she calls again, keep calm, ask her to leave your property and not come back, and keep a written note of the exchange.

OP, best to steer clear and try not to engage with them. If they persist, keep a record of encounters in case you need to take things further

Keep an eye out for footprints coming from her property, tbh.

After your conversation with her, id be a lot more enticed to put up cameras, make sure she's not sneaking in at night recording you.

    Thanks for all the advice!!!

I think the best thing is to just ignore her and if she comes on my property again just ask her to leave. I will keep a note of anything like this happening

I could be wrong ...but I think she "likes" you.

    That's when good neighbours ...

Sounds like she might be paranoid, can be an element of schizophrenia or other psychiatric disorders, probably harmless and just ignore. You can call the Guards if she ever gets agitated about it.
